Ray Charles invented and innovated soul music right? Hi ive researched ray charles, seen the movie, listened to his music, and ray charles was the first to do soul music right, because in the movie hes the first person to put gospel and r&b together so it makes sense, but what does anybody else have to say, i actually dont even know why im asking this question, i mean yes sam cooke, aretha franklin, michael jackson and j5, james brown, and many many others have tried at soul, changed it, and added things, but when it all comes down to the true inventor of the genre, its the one and only ray charles, i mean just listen to i got a woman, look on the internet, theyre all gonna say the same thing thing im telling you, and unless you know any true soul songs or artists before ray charles's time that actually made the genre, youvlet me know, and i will change my facts, thank you for your time and have a great monday!

Ray charles and the south/country music? What does Ray charles say about the south? I know Georgia on my mind is about the south, and I know he has done some country western. I'm sure some of his country western is about the south but I don't know those songs very well. Does anyone know any songs or lyrics by Ray Charles that mention anything about the south?
R&P: Who did Gospel music better, Elvis or Ray Charles? It is pretty well documented that Elvis not only did gospel music, but was heavily influenced by it, but I think too few people recognize that Ray Charles did that too. My question is, who do you think took that gospel influence and used it more effectively in their career, Elvis or Ray? Ray http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrd14PxaUco&feature=related Elvis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf0vJiyeLIo MQ: Considering I'm not a huge Elvis fan, this is a question to those of you that might know. I know Ray Charles' caught quite a bit of flak for singing gospel and profiting "off of the church", but what response did Elvis get for doing gospel? What are your feelings about that? MQ2: Ray Charles or Elvis? BQ: Ray Charles was caught and jailed for his drug addiction, which he later beat after being threatened for more serious jail time. Do you think Elvis would have lived longer had the same happened to him?
Appreciating Ray Charles for his contribution to country music. What Ray Charles song do you enjoy most? Take These Chains From My Heart (Hee Haw appearance) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ7Mbhl24NU Bye Bye Love You Don't Know Me Half as Much I Love You So Much It Hurts Just a Little Lovin' (Will Go a Long Way) Born to Lose Worried Mind It Makes No Difference Now You Win Again Careless Love I Can't Stop Loving You Hey, Good Lookin' You Are My Sunshine Here We Go Again That Lucky Old Sun (Just Rolls Around Heaven) And oh so many more....

R&P: Could you recommend me some Ray Charles? I have the Greatest Hits by Ray, but I need more. I've become obsessed with his music lately, and I don't know where to go from here. Do you think you could hook me up with some songs, or albums to continue with? Obviously, try and avoid giving me his biggest hits, I already have those, but like, maybe some early albums or hidden gems? Thanks! MQ: Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder MQ2: Favorite Ray Charles song? Ray Charles Or Stevie Wonder? I grew up listening to both, along with a whole list of other artists (MJ,red hot chili peppers, aerosmith,James Brown,etc..) but ray and stevie have always been high up there on my list. I like stevies music a little bit more than Ray's but who do you prefer? R.I.P Ray Charles
What's a good book that contains Jazz sheet music for the piano? I'm a young pianist who has been playing for abut 7-8 years now. I'm looking for anything that has a sort of Bobby Darrin/Ray Charles feel to it. I'll even accept a book containing music from said artists, as long as its not something simple. I apologize for the tough question. I'm simply stuck on what to buy, since music books these days are so expensive.
Who is the best music artist? who is the best music artist. Ray Charles, T.I, lil Wayne, lil Boosie, Souji Boy{just kidding he sucks}, Linkin Park, System Of The Down, Jackie Chan, or Jhi-Ali

who things we should have a legends category in music? ok, i think there needs to be like a category totaly based around the legends in music. like ray charles, jimi hendrix, the beetles, elvis, janis joplin, etc. it would be called the legends category, and it would rock!

Why can't we respect the Masters in Classic Jazz and not stop at Ray Charles, Miles Davis. There are more!!! It seems only Ken Burns can capture the essence of the genre. All too many venues have either a bail of hay onstage or smashed guitars. No one will remember the 'Count' or the 'Duke' or Blakey or Tatum, Jamal or Garner. Our contribution to music, The Great American Song Book-Classic Jazz. Apparently no one is familiar with Classic Jazz or even cares that we aren't keeping it alive. Any comments as to why you believe this wonderful improvisational music is dying?
New music or old music? I was just noticing that there seems to be two types of people on Y!A: people who like newer music (My Chemical Romance,The Shins, 50 Cent, Rage Against The Machine, etc.) and people who like old music (Pink Floyd, Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, The Rolling Stones, etc.) Which do you personally prefer? Whatever genre you like, do you like music that is more recent or older, and why?
Does anyone know the correct chords for Ray Charles' version of Georgia On My Mind? I've been searching, and found differet chords on different sites, and since I don't have a lot of experience in the sort of thing, it's kinda hard for me to tell which one is right where. Also, I'm (as of now) mainly a classical pianist; does anyone have any tips on writing / transposing a piano part for Georgia On My Mind to accompany a singer and strings?.. I've been trying my hand at improvising lately but am still not very good at music which isn't already written in front of me. I want something in the vein of the live versions you can find on youtube, such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thls_tMuFk, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NwQHEqkZpU. Thanks.
why do people consider some music as bad? i mean like why are some people so against like oldies or rap or country, because when it comes down to it all music is awesome. it all influences what music is next and it all influences are lives and our culture. all music is important and all music is good. i mean what if we never heard janis joplin sing cause we refused to listen to that music or if ray charles wasn't allowed to sing, becuase we didn't like the music. our world would be so differnet. there are some people out there who flat out won't listen to country, but its made just as big of an impact as rock and roll. i mean what would the world be like without johnny cash. what really angers me is people who refuse to listen to oldies, because thats were our music now came from. why do you think some people are like this? are you like this? if so why? yea, but i still don't think you should totaly exclude a category cause you could really be missing something great. i difinatly have a favorite im not arguing that, i just think that people shouldn't exlude a certain type of music. im more getting at not even trying to listen to different music. like just saying, im never listening to country. thats what really bugs me. cause personaly im not a big fan of jazz but i still think its important and im not like oh it sucks.

Where is the soul in music nowadays? Why is music so empty these days? What's happened to artists like Billie Holiday, or Ray Charles? I feel like music lacks the power it used to... Is it just me?
Who is the most influential person/group in each music genre? For me it's Pop: Michael Jackson or Madonna Jazz: Ray Charles or Loius Armstrong Soul: Bill Withers Rap: Tupac Shakur Gangsta Rap: N.W.A. Rock: The Beatles R&B: Usher Hip-Hop: Jay-Z Country: Rascal Flatts (don't know any country stars) Leave your choices & genres below
Best singers that use mainly the piano in there songs? I'm learning the piano and want to listen to music that has the piano as the main instrument. I don't want a list of classical music. I want stuff like Ray Charles, norah jones. I don't really know, thats why i'm asking this question. Just talented artist that play the piano. Please name all the best ones you can. If you got a hundred that you like let me know everyone. Thanks ahead of time.
What's with all the terrible music today? I've heard birds chirp and sing much better than some of the crap that "artists” are coming out with today. What happened to all the great musicians like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendirx, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Supremes, Ike and Tina, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin?? I know most of them are dead, but that doesn't mean that our ears should be cursed to hear nothing but noise!!!?? Why can’t people write better lyrics and music!? It's horrendous music and I'm sick of it. And please don't tell me not to listen to it because it's unavoidable!! Everywhere you go- you have to hear this terrible music. Nor is it my age because I'm only 24. So what's with the terrible music? Jena W, LOL!!!! Great answer!
Georgia on my mind piano sheet music? Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles for free? And without having to download any program or anything.

Have any Black solo artist won an American country music award? I know that the Supremes won as a group in 1975 but I was wondering if any solo artist has I was thinking of Ray Charles. I cant believe I forgot about Charlie my mother-in-laws all time favourite do you know of any girls that have even been nominated
Different types of Music jobs? well here's my situation. I'm 18 years old and lookin for a career. i curenntly attend college in pursuit of an engineering degree, but my hearts in music. I like playing music but i love music in general. Frank Sinatra to snopp and Ray Charles to George Strait, I love it all. Every artist and every genre brings something new to the table. Music is powerful, life without it would not be tolerable. So my question is what kinds of careers are out there. I mean besides the obvious music teacher or Dj. Anything woud help, thanks
Good jazz music with tenor sax and/or trombone? I'm looking for some good jazz music artists/songs that have good tenor sax and/or trombone parts. Making a personlized CD for a friend who likes stan getz, t monk, ray charles, louis armstrong, chet baker, and maynard ferguson, but wants to listen to artists other than them. Thanks for your help! God bless!
Is rap considered music? I honestly don't consider rap music. That's my opinion. My uncle used to work for Ray Charles before he died, and Ray used to say, "Can you play it on the piano?" I'm not so sure you can play rap on the piano. I just want to hear some opinions because I know someone might feel otherwise and I would like to know why.
"Seven Spanish Angels" sheet music? I've looked all over for the sheet music to "Seven Spanish Angels" by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles, but I cannot find any. I'd be fine with piano sheet music, but NO guitar tabs. I play clarinet, and my dad would like me to play this song for him. Any scans of music you already own would be great, but make sure it's treble clef, and the melody. Thanks.
Am I a racist for disliking some Black music, and liking some other Black music? The stuff that I can't stand is hip hop and rap. I think it is garbage. People like P'Diddy and Ludacris are the ones I can't stand. However I really like Jazz and Blues. Some of my favorite artist are Barry White, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding. Some people have accused me of being racist for not liking the "new" Black music.
What do you think about today's main manifestations of African American music? I mean, don't take me wrong but most of today's African American artists are not a whole lot compared to their antecedents. Great artists like Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklyn and others will be remembered for a long time for their brilliant art. But the Moneymaker song and others don't strike me as masterpiece. I am a great fan of African American culture and I admire the hip hop movement but it seems that the movement got lost on mid 90's and everything started to be about selling drugs, a*s and more drugs. Please share your opinions
Anyone want to send me free music for my birthday yesterday? I have an iPod that I found months ago. I tried to find the owner but was never able to. So, now it's legally mine. I would purchase music from iTunes but I don't have any credit cards or the $ to do so. If anyone has any music, not necessarily these songs, but anything from these artists that they can email me, please do: AC/DC - (Back in Black, Highway to Hell) The Clash - (London Calling) Maroon 5 - (Any of their Singles) Anything from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, etc. Paramore - (Misery Business) Beyonce - (Beautiful Liar) Michael Jackson - (Anything) Whitney Houson - (Anything) Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, John Legend. THE BEATLES - (Help, Can't Buy Me Love) Anything of the above or similar would be great. Thanks and God Bless. Also, if you don't want to, don't type any rude or offensive "answers" - I'm just looking for some helpful people who are willing to help. DO YOU KNOW ANY SITES THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD MUSIC FROM FOR FREE (NOT LIMEWIRE)
Why did we give up the good music ? Why did blacks give up the good music ? Let me start off by saying PLEASE don't call me racist, or generalizing and just answer the question. I'm black two of my favourite rappers were busta rhymes and ludacris... however as these guys are getting older, there's nothing to really replace them. All the more recent rappers rap about the same thing, to almost the same beat and the same music videos... So.. sometime when i was 10-11, i got into red hot chili peppers ( my brother bought the californication album ), and then there was linkin park, I had the first 2 albums. Then there is coldplay. My question is, why have mainstream black media, and quite frankly a lot of my friends too, given up on the good music that blacks used to make. What happened to Ray Charles, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and I dare say.. Michael Jackson (pedophile or not, the guy DID make good music ). All I can afford is an acoustic Guitar. So it really frustrates me to see so many of my ( more affluent ) friends, buying expensive keyboards, going to music school, learning scales and music theory.... and then try to make rap beats !!!! I think that we as a people, are trying to hard to identify ourself, and so too often get stuck in stereotypes. The three bands I mention above: Linkin Park RHCP & Coldplay All play very different styles of music, yet no one questions their "whiteness" So why does all mainstream, modern black music HAVE to be hip hop ? why can't we do something different ? YES I know I am generalizing, but this is pretty damn close to the truth. In response to these types of questions, people often mention, some underground jazz artists, or black rockers who you NEVER see on tv. But that's my point, the media only show a narrow spectrum of our musical capabilities. I mean geez, there is so much MORE we can do, than make rap beats !!!!
Music suggestions for me? I am a big fan of music. I also like a fairly wide variety. Though, I'm not really into the newer mainstream stuff. I despise rap (no offense meant) and the rock which is labeled "emo" (again, no offense meant). Here is a list of the musicians on my iTunes library. However, this list doesn't even compare to the bands/artists in my CD collection. But, if there is a band or artist that you think I may not have and think I would like, please say so! Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! I'm 17 and I like Old School music? Come on, I mean 17? Is it normal? Some of my favorite Old School artists include: 1.) The Spinners(especially "Love Don't Love Nobody") 2.) The Beatles 3.) The Temptations 4.) The Dells 5.) The Doors 6.) Beethoven(Classicals) 7.) The Village People 8.) Diana and the Surpremes 9.) Frank Sinatra 10.) Ray Charles Those are only a few. Just wanted to know if there were any other young people who liked music from back in the day.
Music Suggestions? Alright, i LOVE music along the lings of Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Etta James, and Ray Charles. Any other musician suggestions along those lines? Also, any Cole Porter songs to reccomend?
Any (obscure) music suggestions? I'm up for suggestions! I made a list of the music that is on my computer so you can get an idea of what I listen to. As you can tell, my music taste varies. However, I despise most of the popular bands (okay, ALL) bands of today. Also, keep in mind that I have many more artists on CD that isn't on my computer so they are not listed....so, try to be as obscure as possible. Why do they call hip-hop music? Why is hip_hop consided music? I saw a movie on t.v last night called 8 mile with ememn. It showed him doing hip-hop while a bunch of idiots waved their arms and jumped around like a bunch of monkeys(how can you dance to that?) Its another idiot yelling curse words, and talking trash,to the beat of drums.lol.The worse ones are the fools that buy this garbage and make these so called singers millions.I saw a show on t.v that shows you these so called singers?cribs(homes in the english langague) They got mansions that cost millions,10 cars, swimming pools the size of football fields.(lol) these so called hip-hop artists must be laughing all the way to the bank everytime one of these fools buys their so called music. Real music is oprea, country, rock, classic, oldies ect. Good singers like the drifters, the beach boys, the temtations, patsey kline, dolly paton, nat king cole, the surpremes, ray charles ect.I know must of these artists are dead, but so is good music! Down with hip-hop,l
How many of you people like.....................................? How many of you like Ray Charles' country music recordings as much as I do. I think he could put more feeling into a country song than most white country singers. Seven Spanish Angels was one of his best,,(and my favorite) Al Downing was another black country music singer who could really put a lotta feeling into a country song. And then there is Charley Pride....one of the best but he could not put as much feeling into a song as Ray Charles or Al Downing.. Also, it seems as though Al Downing has dropped out of the country music picture. Does anyone know what happened to him. My favorite song by him was "Mr Jones".
